On July 19, 2024, the Houthi movement from Yemen launched a drone strike on Tel Aviv, Israel. The drone, an Iranian-made Samad-3, traveled over 2,000 kilometers and managed to evade Israeli defense systems due to a reported human error. The attack targeted a building near a U.S. Embassy annex and caused one death and several injuries.
Among the casualties was Yevgeny Ferder, a 50-year-old Belarusian immigrant who moved to Israel in 2022 after the start of the Russia-Ukraine war. He was living and working at a hotel in Tel Aviv when the drone struck.
This attack marked a significant escalation in the Houthis' involvement in the Middle Eastern conflict, aligned with Iran’s broader regional strategy.
